Personal Hygiene for the Men

A real man is a clean man who knows how to take care of his body beyond the gym. Hygiene is critical to their success in life. Your hygiene habits say a lot about you. And you don’t have to do so much. You can start wearing deodorant to avoid smelly sweat. Wash your face with plain water.

“Unless you are coming back from an expedition to Kilimanjaro or an African safari, successful men need to look the part,” she says. “Your persona needs to exude your accomplishments without uttering a word. This impeccable look needs to be obvious, from well-cut hair on your head to shoes that are polished and align with the rest of your image.” Here are some more expert-approved tips you should follow.

Wear Deodorant

This seems like a men’s hygiene no-brainer, but whether it’s using deodorant or antiperspirant, many men don’t follow this simple guideline as frequently as they should. Many men also might not realize the difference between the two products.

“A deodorant gets rid of odor caused by sweating, while antiperspirants actually stop and dry up perspiration,” says Maurice Voce, co-founder and chief marketing officer of Skin Authority, a natural skin care brand. “Look for an antiperspirant/deodorant combination and make sure the fragrance isn’t too overpowering.”

Wash Your Face Twice a Day
Voce says this is not only an important personal hygiene rule, but also a critical aspect of men’s health.

“But never use soap, body gels, or body scrubs on your face,” he warns. “While it may be the cheapest way to go and convenient when you’re in the shower, using soap and water will strip your skin of essential moisture and upset its natural pH balance, leaving it irritated and dry.” Instead, Voce suggests using “a facial cleanser designed to normalize your pH and restore moisture balance.”

Since sex is something that many men seem to love, it is important that they practice sexual hygiene. It is always good to shower before having penetrative intercourse. For men who are not uncircumcised then you need to spend a lot of time in the shower getting rid of any residue hidden in the foreskin.

razor-414909_640Skin in a man’s genital region is not all that different from other areas of the body, so cleaning once a day is just fine. To avoid jock itch, men should take care to dry off well after swimming, bathing, and sweating. It’s also a good idea to wash up before any intercourse where the penile penetration is involved. This is nowhere near the best way to prevent the spread of infections but it may cut back the chances of transmission to some extent. For men who are uncircumcised, it is important to clean under the foreskin, making sure to wipe away any residue that has built up there. This is mostly a cleanliness issue but it can be more serious. “If there is a lot of accumulation, then it becomes a substance that can also hold onto bacteria, so the risk of a sexually transmitted infection is inflated,” says Taverner.

Let’s hope this tip doesn’t surprise too many people but men should change their underwear daily. This can help avoid infections, irritation, and odor. If you’ve engaged in a particularly sweaty activity, a midday change may even be warranted. Cotton is a good choice to let the boys breathe but not such a smart one for athletic situations, where something with moisture-wicking and good support is recommended.
